The Gospel

Life. Death. Resurrection.

Ministry. Died for Our Sins. Holy Spirit Given.

The Gospel: God sent His son to earth to live life in ministry for all to know Him, where He then took up the cross to die for the forgiveness of our sins so that through Him and His resurrection, His Holy Spirit, which descended from Heaven, could lead us to eternal life with Him after believing, repenting, surrendering and declaring Him Lord and Savior over our life.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

Luke 2:10-11

Jesus Announces the Good News

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.  “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Mark 1:14-20

I have always known the Gospel, which is what is above, but after this past Sunday’s service at church, I decided to share some takeaways that the pastor had spoken on that truly resonated in my Spirit to receive and share.

Sunday Service Notes:

As we have read above what the Gospel is, it is very important that we, as individuals, examine our hearts first and see if we may have “received” a notion of what the Gospel is but realized that the life or the Word that you were living by and spreading to people may not have been the true Gospel that you should have received. It may look like this.

The Gospel is NOT:
  • Based on Morals and being a good person doing good things.
  • It is not a self-help guide to be a better person who gets their dreams fulfilled
  • There is no politics nor social activism in the Gospel.
  • It is not about Jesus loving you (although we know He loves you based on His actions and life shown here on Earth and in Heaven).
  • And The Gospel is not the bible since the Gospel happened, and the bible was written way later. And yes, the bible is used to share the facts, and we can use the context of Jesus, but still.)

I want to restate this again: Yes, these things listed can happen through you receiving Jesus and living a transformed life in Him, but they are NOT the Gospel.

The Gospel is Hearing the message of Christ. It allows us to hear the truth about Jesus’ life and be transformed with real belief in Him, enough to have us truly repent and live a life that glorifies God because of the transformation in Jesus.

The Gospel Notes in Acts 2
1. The Age of the Messiah has come.

Everything prophesied has come, and the prophetic is unfolding right now, allowing us access.

No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Acts 2:16-21

2. Ministry, Death, & Resurrection of Christ.

It shows Jesus’ ministry, revealing who He is. It also shows His death and God’s raising Him from the dead.

“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.  This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Acts 2:22-24

3. Jesus is exalted as Lord & Christ.

The Gospel is not just about forgiveness but about surrendering your life and declaring that He is your Lord and Savior. That He has Lordship over your life, and you are okay with surrendering your all.

For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

Acts 2:34-36

4. The Holy Spirit has been given through the church.

The Gospel shows the present reality of His works.

Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

Acts 2:33

5. Jesus will come again and establish His Kingdom on Earth.

6. A call to faith & repentance.

You cannot just hear the Gospel but must receive it, believe it, and repent.

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Acts 2:37

We must know that when we weaken the Gospel, we weaken the heart of the receiver who hears it.

I hope this blesses you the way it has blessed me. God bless you!
