Light, Darkness, Sin, and Forgiveness: Mathematics Shows Lukewarm Doesn’t Exist

Today, I realized something in my late 20s that I wish I had discovered in my early teens, when I needed the information. Did you know that multiplying or dividing a positive number by a negative number always results in a negative number? If you did, which I assume you already knew, then that is awesome, but for me, this was mind-blowing in the way I received the knowledge of such a fact.

You see, when it came down to math and science, I was not the best student in those subjects. I mean, I TRIED so hard to study, attended many tutor sessions, and would confidently shout out the answers to the questions asked, only to be humiliated by a disappointing teacher/professor for getting them wrong. Eventually, I continued to try to educate myself until I passed introductory college algebra, which gave me a sense of accomplishment. Although I did it and passed with an A, it was not until today that I understood the math terms, positive and negative, and realized what result I would end up with every time.

So, upon realizing this well-known mathematical system, I had a moment of introspection in the heart of my home, which is my kitchen, because apparently, that is where God loves to speak to me. I had just had a moment with my toddlers and was explaining to them how good God is and how, because He is so wonderful and pure, nothing bad can live in their bodies that God also lives in. It’s impossible! After explaining to them how they have a choice in their actions and can make good or bad decisions, I eventually saw my toddlers’ attention drawn to a first responder’s siren and saw their bodies run to the window, with me still in thought. My thought went straight to people who claim to love God, but their lives do not show it. I continued to ponder, thinking about how many people know about God, who is likely a genie-like God, but do not have a real relationship with Him. My final epiphany thought was, “Wait a minute, if darkness, which is negative, were to try to dwell in a body that is light, which is positive, then the body would have to be negative, no matter what, because darkness and light cannot exist with each other; it’s one or the other.” This led me to think about numbers, which in turn prompted a Google search on my phone with a simple question.

“If I multiply a negative number by a positive number, will I always get a negative number?”

Had I finally gotten my mathematics right? Guess what? After nearly a decade, it finally clicked, and I was right! Any positive number multiplied by a negative number results in a negative number. Then I wondered why my teachers couldn’t have explained math to me in this way. (Which I know is unreasonable, but I was always that student who related things to God and how everything coexisted in biblical time, which is still the time we live in. I know you may have thought of me as a headache if I were your student, but I was just curious how it all tied in. Sadly, my curiosity never helped; it only led me to be a problematic student who was in trouble for her faith.

I say this to convey that this mathematical term inspired me to share something with you, and I hope that you receive it in the same way I did upon finally gaining this mathematical knowledge. Hang in there with me on this one!

When a body is purified with light, it will continue to be a project of light. You multiply that positive light by more light, and you gain a bigger light. BUT, when a negative sin enters the body, then your body is not completely light. The body has become compromised. You multiply your sins in a positive body, then your sinful nature will only grow until you’re in a place where sin is numb to you. Your sin got bigger and darker, and your purity has diminished along the way. At some point, you didn’t realize how far you had drowned in sin and been consumed by darkness, so it is now a struggle to reconnect to the light, which is positive. Who is pure, and who is God? Your body is still negative. BUT if you were to die to yourself and gain God, wash out the darkness with the cleansing baptism waters and gain the Holy Spirit of God to purify your soul, then the darkness will leave and the light, which is all good, all knowing, and all positive, will overcome your body.

The positive light appears to be a life entirely devoted to God. Who is passionately in love with the Son of God and lives like it by having alone time with Him, spreading the Gospel from a genuine heart, can be discipled and find someone to disciple, someone who chooses Jesus all day every day and is committed to Him, and someone who wants to be changed to be more like Him and less like the world. There is more to it, but these are just some of the basics that I am sharing to make my point with you right now.

As it is written,

Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

1 John 1:5-6

Sister, your body can’t hold darkness and light at the same time. You cannot choose to serve God yet live an unholy life that contradicts your relationship with Him. Your life and love should represent who you serve. I understand that some people claim to be lukewarm Christians and are okay with where they stand in their relationship with God. Still, a lukewarm relationship is not sincere, nor a destination after you’re done here on earth. You must choose who you serve. You must decide whether you love God more or sin. There is no middle ground between Heaven and Hell. Eternal life is one or the other, and I pray that it is not your fear that decides on what life you want to live, but that your love for God allows you to make the best decision that results in a healthy eternal relationship and eternal life with Him.

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

Remember, a positive number multiplied by a negative number will always result in a negative number. The light and darkness cannot exist in the same body; you must choose. He has already chosen you, but your free will gets to decide which life you will live. What numbers will you multiply in your body? Negative sin, or Positive light?

Which would you choose?

You can’t have both.

Scriptures

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 6:24

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James 4:4

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:14
