Give Gratitude For Old Blessings That Still Have Purpose
Who remembers the day they got their first car? (Especially a car that eventually paid off!) Now, who remembers the day they had to say goodbye to their car?
Well, I have not reached the moment yet of getting rid of my lady, but can I just tell you all about this blessing of mine that keeps coming through?!!
So Josh has been having that talk with me about getting rid of her for some time because she, for the most part, would just sit in the driveway. And he thought it would be better to give her to someone else. I could not bear to get rid of her, though. I kept thinking about how she came into my life and served me in MANY adventures and how she had blessed others without a car. She was my college days before the kids and marriage. She was the beginning stage for Josh and me. She was something that I worked to pay for myself and was my first ever adult purchase, something that I knew I needed. My Uncle/ Godfather knew my daddy was going to buy me a car the year he passed and offered me this car for free, but I knew I just needed to (mentally) work for it at the time, and I did. He, too, passed away a few years ago, so I just couldn’t let go of her.
WELL, I was talking to God one day and praying about our new family car that He is going to bring in its rightful time. As I was sitting in my car running errands as Josh watched the kids, I just kept talking to God about how grateful I was to have this car, how she still serves our family, and how I just miss the old days and that feeling of feeling like the old me.
Let me tell you something. I had a year checkup for our youngest one and knew that I needed to get to the doctor one way or another, and I felt the sudden desire to try to put the car seats in the car correctly just to see something. Something I was not expecting. My lady fit ALL 3 car seats PERFECTLY in the car, and I could take the kids to the doctor’s! Guys, I felt like God had told me that the old me was not fully gone in those days. I am still me, but with a sprinkle of blessings, “my cubs” added to me. I felt like the same week when I was talking to God about my moment with my car, God had heard me and allowed my children to join my world and share an experience with them that changed my outlook on me as a mother. I wondered if they would see the real me and not just the parenting, constantly correcting and teaching, and pick a thing, But they did. They knew it was my car and were just as excited to finally all be in the car with me.
Now, there will be a time when lady does not serve us and is gone, but as for today, I just thank God for hearing me and responding to me. I thank God for his blessing that has continued to serve not only me but also others.
DO NOT forget about the blessing that you currently have. They can still serve where you are today.
DO NOT think a blessing has to look a certain way for it to be considered a blessing. (She may not look the part and has gotten roughed up over the years, but she is still being used! And still perfect because of the One who sent her!)
DON’T UNDERESTIMATE what God is doing or can do with the blessing you received from him before. If you still have that one thing, or many, thank God and see how it is still serving you or can serve others.
And remember where you were before, during, and after you received the blessing. Thank God for those waiting seasons.
I want to say that in our waiting season without our family car and before I discovered that my car was here ready to serve our family once more, that waiting season was a blessed one where Josh and I got to be on the other end of giving/ receiving. We have always been the ones to do without expecting that same kind of kindness to be given back. So, to see a community of good-hearted people be used by God to serve us in our time of need has opened my heart to another side of people, and we are truly blessed and grateful for such a community. So, to those who have been a part of our journey.
God bless you all!
